AREA GUIDE

Southern Ehime (Nanyo)

Experience the heritage and natural beauty of southern Ehime through its historical townscapes, stunning mountain vistas, and the Uwakai Sea.

Getting Around

Southern Ehime is less populated and more remote than the eastern and central regions of the prefecture, and getting around by public transportation requires some extra planning. Trains serve Uchiko, Ozu, and other limited destinations along the coast. For trips into the mountains or along the Sadamisaki Peninsula, there are bus services albeit sometimes infrequent, especially outside of peak periods and on weekdays. Sightseeing taxis that can be hired for the day and rental cars are often the most convenient means to explore the region.

Renting a Car

There are car rental outlets in the major cities of the southern Nanyo region such as Uwajima, Yawatahama, and Seiyo. They are typically located near train stations. To rent a car, you will need a valid license, an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) from your country of residence, and be at least 18 years old.
